Properties on the High Street were renumbered at the start of the 1900s. This property was previously Number 95.
In 1899, No 85 was occupied by Henry Holtby, Grocer and Mineral Water Manufacturer.
In this photograph dating from the early 20th Century, John Holtby (centre), Henry's son, is pictured outside his shop leaning on an oil drum. Holtby's shop sold motorbikes and cycles.
