Properties on the High Street were renumbered at the start of the 1900s. This property was previously Number 94.
In 1899, No 83 was occupied by John Forbes, Shopkeeper.
On the left-hand side of this photograph, dating from the early 20th century, No 83 is shown as a hairdressers with the barber's pole. John Holtby's shop is next door.
