Windows on the Past

Every building on the High Street has lived more than one life.

15 HIGH STREET, BRIDLINGTON

Properties on the High Street were renumbered at the start of the 1900s. This property was previously Number 63.

In 1911 this was a fruiterer's shop, run by Thomas Gill, age 40 from Hull. He lived in six rooms with his wife Anne, also 40, from Cottingham, and their four daughters, all born in Bridlington, Anne age 15, Elsie age 13, Emily age 11 and Alice age 9.  By 1921 the family had moved to Hull, where Thomas was a fruit hawker, selling fruit from a barrow or market stall.
